I am up for a challenge, that has needed to be done for awhile now. We have got to get Braxton to stop sucking his thumb. . . It seriously has to be the hardest habit to break, but it is starting to mess up his teeth quite a bit.....so now is the time we have to figure something out. He only sucks it at night, and so that is why it is hard, cause I can't stop him. We have honestly tried everything from the sock on the hand to threatening that he would wake up with a purple thumb( If you don't remember he hates box elder ....hence the purple thumb) But nothing works..... so if anyone out there has any miracle cures for thumb sucking please share them :) Friday, October 10, 2008
My next challenge.....the thumb!!!

I have no idea. Hunter loved his pacifier and he ended up bitting the tip of it off. Hmmm, can't really do that with a thumb. My husband was a thumb sucker as a child and they put one of those things in his mouth (I think it's called a rake, but really have no idea) so it hurt his thumb when he put it in his mouth. Maybe you could try that? Or my husband said when he sucked his thumb (until he was around 5) it was for comfort. Maybe you could find him something else to comfort him like a really soft blanket or a stuffed animal? Good luck!!
Don't stress it, he will grow out of it. I used to suck my tumb & still do at times!! And my mom tried tons of things to get me to stop & I never did. I think you just grow out of it, it's a comfort thing!! GOOD LUCK:)
Hey! My sister kayla sucked her thumb forever. It was awful....and can seriously do some damage:) You can do it and good luck!!!
THe only thing that would work was covering her thumb in this special stuff we got a prescription for I think???? It was a liquid of some kind. It reaked so bad...and tasted worse I think. the poor girl. The cap had a brush attached and everyday we would coat her thumbs in it. We would know when it went into her mouth because she would scream and scream. It worked. Some kids suck it so long that they have to actually get an appliance glued to their top molars with a spike that runs acrossed the top of their mouth. It will prick their poor little thumb if it goes in. SO TERRIBLE..and sad. Do waht you gotta do to not let that happen to the little guy!

Good luck with the thumb sucking. I have a nephew who will be 5 in a week & he still sucks his thumb. BUT only at night. Anyway, they do the putting the sock over his thumb during bed time. I don't know how well it is working, but good luck! My father in law used to suck his thumb when he was a kid, & his mom put stuff on it & told him it was poison & if he sucked his thumbs, then he would die... ha ha. NEVER again did he suck his thumb. Kind of harsh, but it worked!!!
